Pumpskynz - born out of one T1D’s desire to brighten up the routine of living with diabetes.
Insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors - the amazing life saving technology that I am so incredibly grateful for every day.
Wouldn’t it be even more amazing if our devices came in different colours? This is something I often thought about since diabetes and I joined forces in 2013.
Recently I decided to take matters into my own hands and so the Pumpskynz journey began.
I’m hoping the fact you’ve found your way here means we’re on the same wavelength and that Pumpskynz are the answer to some of your problems too!
I’m Catherine: T1D, farmer's wife, journalist and mother to two amazing children. I’m originally from London, but living in Ireland for more than 20 years.
In 2013 I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy. I was told it would go away - it didn’t! On the plus side, with a new baby to look after I didn’t have time to dwell on my T1D diagnosis, I just had to get on with it. Getting a Dexcom in 2015 was life changing but I was adamant I didn't want an insulin pump. I thought it would make me feel like there was something wrong with me - I was wrong. I've had a Medtronic 640g for the last two years and it's made life even easier (and prettier in its Pumpskynz cover)!
From the outset, I’ve tried to face diabetes head-on and stay positive, but of course that’s easier said than done. Diabetes management isn’t straightforward and the curved balls we get thrown can make even the strictest managed days difficult.
Since I was diagnosed, I’ve always looked for ways to make living with diabetes a bit easier and a bit brighter.
My lightbulb moment came last year while trading in my iPhone and spending at least half an hourdecidingonwhichcasetobuy.Thatgotmethinkingaboutthelengthswegotoprotectand customise our phones, yet that same choice isn’t there for our other essential devices like insulin pumps (which are infinitely more valuable than our phonestoo!).
I am passionate that people with diabetes should be proud of the warriors that we are. I am proud of my insulin pump and love when people ask me about it because it allows me to open up the conversation about T1D and what living with it is really like.
Since diabetes became part of my life, I have communicated with so many people from so many different backgrounds and walks of life, all joined by one thing in common. I have been inspired to create Pumpskynz to help people express their personality and show off their pumps and CGMs.
It is important to me that Pumpskynz don’t just look great, but also make every day with diabetes easier. I love how our Gloskynz make finding your Libre reader in the middle of the nightlessdifficult,orhowourGlitterskynzsaveyour670Gfromadreadedcrack.ButwhatIlove the most is how Pumpskynz are making a difference to dealing withdiabetes.
